We will cook together and we will eat together
On Sunday, January 18, we are opening the doors of BIOS for an event that re-imagines hospitality as we know it. Resisting the pressure to blend in, Nobody eats (until everybody is seated) is an invitation to exist authentically and stand proudly in who we are -to claim our seat at the table. We will cook together and we will eat together. Each participant will taste the food and receive a copy of the book without any financial cost.
Combining cooking with games, performance and painting workshops, we co-create a safe environment where everyone is encouraged to honor their identity and connect through food, play and creativity.
Through a series of interviews, we collect recipes and record the dietary habits of people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. In collaboration with Kapa Publishing, we are creating a multilingual cookbook capturing the identity, imagination and playfulness of its contributors.
What would our city look like, if everyone got a seat at the table?
Our intention is to open a dialogue on the issue of assimilation and integration. We assume that Athens is a city that welcomes people with an ultimatum: will you only socialize with your fellow speakers on the margins, or will you sacrifice pieces of your identity in order to merge into the mainstream?
Can we gather, converse and connect, without imposing ourselves on each other?
We invite you to paint, perform, interact, share, cook, and eat together. On Sunday, January 18, at BIOS (84 Pireos Street), we will prepare four recipes, gathered from all around the world:
Pad See Ew with shrimps (Thailand)
Flat rice noodles with shrimps, eggs, vegetables & sweet Thai sauce.
Cabbage & carrot salad
Cabbage & carrot salad with apple, spring onion, walnut and anthotyro and a yoghurt dressing with garlic, olive oil and lemon.
Kandil simit (Istanbul)
Savoury cookies with mahlep, grape molasses & black sesame.
Kozinagi (Georgia)
Ηoney & walnut dessert.
